Composed
by Iain Dunnet with lyrics by Irish poetess Angie Wilson, Tà Muid (also
titled Lyra Tà Muid) has featured on a great many albums worldwide over
the past 5 years. The first release on the album Celtic Dreams was
recorded by Nick Magnus and voiced by DWM artist Charlie under the guise
of Celtic Spirit. The TV ad for the album, and many of the subsequent
compilations on which Tà Muid appeared featured the song and often the
video of Charlie which had been recorded in London some months before
the first release.
Though it never managed more than a modest 56 in the
UK album charts, it managed a more healthy 7 in New Zealand and 4 in the
Czech republic. Further incarnations were more successful. Dreams,
released in France by the Mercury label, reached 11 in the national
charts, and remained in contention for several months, re-entering for a
second time later on that year.
In it's own right, the song seems to have a life of
it's own, and appears on a new album somewhere in the world at least
half a dozen times a year. To date there have been at least 45 confirmed
releases which include the song, (either in it's original form or as a
cover) and several more unconfirmed.
The version that plays
through the opening animation for this site was recorded by Iain and
Charlie for her album Vision, (Click
here to listen) and is the way the song was originally written.
The alternate title of "Lyra" was coined by
German Record company Polystar's boss Harry Weller, who felt that a
Gaelic title might not be understood in Germany.
Iain has had a great many
requests from around the world both for the lyrics and the music. At the
moment, only the lyrics
are on the site, but the music is available in top line and chord format
on request from tamuid@iaindunnet.fr.
Iain would love to hear from anyone who has used the
song or who knows of CD releases around the world that he might not know
about.
